Do you have a story about motherhood you want to share? Can you imagine giving that story a voice—your voice—a microphone, and a stage?
The Listen To Your Mother show is coming back to Charleston and auditions are being scheduled now. Auditions will be held February 28, March 1 and March 2, 2015 at the Center for Women. The selected cast will read their original, true stories about motherhood during Charleston’s LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Charleston Music Hall.
39 cities across the country will hold their own unique LTYM shows in the two weeks leading up to Mothers Day. Later this summer, the videos from each city will be released on the LTYM YouTube channel which showcases hundreds of videos from past show seasons.
Who should audition?
LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER cast members can include women and men from all walks and seasons of life. Even though lots of cast members are mothers, you don’t have be. You just have to write (and read aloud!) a true story about motherhood that only you can tell.
To audition for the Charleston, SC show, you should live in the Charleston area, or in relatively close driving distance to Charleston. If you don’t, check to see if there’s a LTYM show near you.
Your story may be funny, sad, nostalgic, insightful, irreverent—whatever feels right to you. Move us with your “you-ness.” Final casting decisions will be based on how these unique stories (about 12) fit together.
We’re looking for true, original stories. If it’s a previously published piece, you must own the rights.
When thinking about the story you want to share, ask yourself, is motherhood the central theme? It might have other sub-themes, but we’re looking for stories where motherhood is the main thread that ties it all together.
Stories should be about 5 minutes long when read aloud. We’ve found that any less than 3 minutes isn’t quite enough and much longer than 5 minutes starts to feel a bit too long.
To recap: true. written by you. about 5 minutes. own the rights. central theme = motherhood.
What’s the time commitment?
You must be able to attend one in-person audition on February 28, March 1 or March 2. Auditions are closed and individual time slots are 15 minutes.
If you are selected to be part of the cast, you must be able to attend two rehearsals (Sunday, April 12 at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 26 at 2:30) and be available on show day (Sunday, May 3, from about 11am-4pm).
