Currently, Reading Partners is in need of 50 volunteers who are willing to help a child with reading for just one hour per week. It’s good for you, good for students and great for the community. If you are a current tutor or supporter, please share this post and the infographic below.

The challenge is significant.

In 2013, just 34% of the nation’s fourth graders in public school could read proficiently. Children who cannot read proficiently by the fourth grade are four times less likely to graduate on time—hindering their chances to live happy, healthy, productive lives. More stunning, one in three students was shown to be reading “below basic” proficiency—functionally illiterate.

Reading Partners works.

Using a structured curriculum to provide one-on-one tutoring, Reading Partners has helped more than 12,000 students become strong, confident readers. They work with school partners to identify students from kindergarten up to the fifth grade who have fallen behind 6 months to 2.5 years in reading. Once enrolled, students receive one-on-one tutoring twice a week in 45-minute sessions.

As a result of our program, students who were once struggling in many subjects become proud, confident readers, excited about learning and ready for success.
