Beginning at midnight May 6th and for 24 hours, you can join in a national “Giving Day” movement, and SUPPORT LILA with your tax-free donation!
HELP SPREAD THE WORD!!
May 6 is Lowcountry Giving Day and LILA will be accepting donations on May 6 (12:01am to 11:59pm).
Our goal – to raise $10,000 for literary arts programming in the lowcountry!
We are seeking funding to grow programming that includes:
- Write Charleston!
- Poetry in Schools
- Poetry Prison-Writing program
And so much more! Our fundraising efforts will allow LILA the staff funding to create more and regular programming for local writers and aspiring authors, as well as to encourage and foster creative literary arts in schools.
PLUS! Attendees at the LILA Day of Giving Reception and New Members joining on May 6 will be entered into a drawing for a Free Annual Membership or One Free Writing Workshop.
We’ll be posting donors all day long at LILA’s Facebook page, Twitter page and to our website. And PLEASE JOIN US at our Open House at the Circular Church from 5 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 6th for refreshments and the chance to sign up for upcoming LILA events, writers groups and more!
All funds donated will be supplemented by the $110,000 gift provided by the generosity of anonymous donors. The Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina will handle the online giving platform and administration. For donations to be counted toward a portion of incentive funds, the donation must be at least $25, and please indicate that your gift is for LILA.
The Lowcountry Initiative for the Literary Arts (LILA) is a literary outreach organization. Its mission is to nurture and promote the literary arts in South Carolina. A board of directors — authors, poets, editors, teachers, booksellers and local supporters of literature – all collaborate to fulfill LILA’s mission. They are supported by LILA’s Advisory Board, made up of some of the South’s most distinguished and well-known authors and literary figures, including Sue Monk Kidd, Mary Alice Monroe, Cassandra King, Pat Conroy, and Dorothea Benton Frank.
LILA has already become a center for all things literary. LILA’s executive board now includes poets, fiction writers, spoken-word artists, and journalists. We feel fortunate to have our brick and mortar home at the Circular Congregational Church in downtown Charleston and look forward to seeing you at our Readings, Literary Events and Writing Workshops there!
LILA’s mission is to nurture and promote the literary arts in South Carolina. LILA is dedicated to developing programs that enrich the area’s literary communities and to diversifying the opportunities open to students, writers, and readers. It approaches this goal by connecting, educating, and promoting writers and readers at every stage of development, from the novice to the professional.
