Join us on Saturday, May 2, 9:30 am–12:00 pm at the Circular Congregational Church of Charleston on 150 Meeting St. for a special LILA Write Charleston! Workshop: Indie Published — The Perils, Pitfalls and PERKS!
Led by Where Writer’s Win’s Shari Stauch, this special workshop will feature a trio of authors who’ve “been there, done that” with their indie-published work, including Sherry Dixon, Kelly Owen and Michael Hurley, each with plenty of insights to help you past the perils and onto the perks of today’s indie-publishing intricacies!
About the Panelists
Sherry Dixon was born to parents of Guamanian and Sicilian descent. She is the second of seven children and lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, Don. Sherry and Don have five children and eight grand children.
Sherry is the author of Natural Destiny, her first book, based on her mother’s true-life childhood POW experience on Guam during WWII.
The Prodigal, Michael’s debut novel from Ragbagger Press, was awarded the Chanticleer Reviews Grand Prize and a Somerset Prize for fiction. It also received numerous accolades in the trade press, including Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, ForeWord Reviews, BookTrib, and IndieReader, and has been optioned for film by producer Diane Isaacs, former head of Green Moon Productions.
Michael’s second novel, The Vineyard, was released by Ragbagger Press on November 25, 2014. Kirkus Reviews calls it “deliriously satisfying” and “addictive, escapist reading.” Chanticleer Reviews calls it “a riptide of a novel…powerful writing that is finely nuanced.”
In August 2014, Kelly Owen self-published her first novel, The College Chronicles: Freshman Milestones through the company she founded with her husband—Boxer Publishing. She teaches academic writing at College of Charleston, and when not in a classroom, Kelly pounds the keyboard for the second book in this four-volume series.
About The College Chronicles: Freshman Milestones: A devastating rape, mysterious suicide, and a secret group intent on exposing a scandal that will forever change the school: Cadence Cooper discovers the details of each during her freshman year at Charlestowne College. Get set to study sex and sociology, beer and biology in The College Chronicles: Freshman Milestones.
Creator of Where Writers Win, Shari Stauch has been involved in publishing, marketing and PR for 30 years. She is also the principal author of the WWW blog, and speaks at conferences around the country.
